here throughout the year.

The Beaman Gym is located on Beckman Street on the east edge of town.
This building was acquired from the BCL School District in the 1980's and
was renovated by volunteers to make it a functional recreational facility
year round. The gym is open for walking during the mornings in the
winter and is the site of middle school wrestling and high school
athletic practices during the school year.
-
SchoolsBeaman is included in the BCLUW School District, which is comprised of
five towns (Beaman, Conrad, Liscomb, Union, and Whitten.) The Elementary
and High School are located in Conrad, and the Junior High is located in
Union. The BCLUW Community recently constructed and opened a state of the art
high school building in Conrad. The BCLUW Community School District has a reputation for
excellence in education, athletics, and community service. -
Beaman City Park

The Beaman City Park, located downtown, contains several mature trees
and includes playground equipment, a
shelter house, picnic tables, and a band shell. Several reunions,
meetings, pot lucks, and other events are held in the shelter house, and
this building can be rented from the Beaman Park Board. Concerts and the
Memorial Day Celebration are held in the band shell, and this park is used
frequently in the summertime by people of all ages
- Tennis Court
The Tennis Court Park is located at the south end of Main Street, just
north of the old fire station. A modern tennis/basketball court is
located here, and is a popular place to utilize during the summer. The facility
is lighted for use during evening hours. The tennis/basketball
court is also often used for ice skating in the winter.
- Wolf Creek Recreation Area
Grundy County's largest park, the Wolf Creek Recreation Area, is located
1.5 miles on gravel roads southeast of Beaman. The facility is
maintained by the Grundy County Conservation Board, and is a popular
camping area. Facilities are available for trailer camping (with
electricity hook ups), tent camping, playground equipment, a shelter
house and numerous trails which meander through wooded areas, a
self-interpreting nature trail, and grassland/wetland areas. The Comet
Trail, a trail connecting the park with Beaman, runs through the park and
includes a suspension bridge over Wolf Creek.
- Comet Trail

The Comet Trail is another area that is maintained by the Grundy County
Conservation Board. The former railroad right-of-way that ran from
Conrad, through Beaman, to the Grundy/Tama County line has been converted
to a popular recreational trail, while preserving valuable wildlife
habitat. The majority of the trail is of a crushed limestone surface,
perfect for bicycling and walking. Trailheads have been developed, both
on the west side and east side of Beaman, along with sites in Conrad and at
the Wolf Creek Recreation Area, for parking and picnicing. The trail was
recently extended into Tama County and a new spur is being developed into
Gladbrook, which will link the towns of Beaman, Conrad, and Gladbrook to
the Wolf Creek Recreation Area. In addition, this trail was recently
included as a part of the "American Discovery Trail", which runs from coast
to coast across the United States. This is a project of the US Park
Service to link recreational, scenic, and wildlife habitat significant
trails across the nation.
- Beaman Arboretum
The Beaman Arboretum is a five acre interpretive nature area on the east
edge of Beaman, maintained by the Grundy County Conservation Board. This
wooded area contains several species of trees and has a nature trail that
winds its way through the park. Little development has been done here in
order to preserve it as a game refuge and wildlife area.

a paging system through the Grundy County Sheriff's Department. Each
year, the fire department hosts a pancake breakfast and a soup supper.

respond to medical emergencies in the Beaman and Conrad Area. The group
maintains a large amount of equipment, including a defibrillator, the Jaws of
Life, and other tools to effectively respond to emergency situations. Ambulance
